Handmade Book by Alan LeQuire and Susan Hulme

Text by Alan LeQuire and Madison Smartt Bell

Edition of 100

Alan LeQuire's Dream Forest installation premiered at Clarksville's Customs House Museum in 2009. LeQuire sculpted nine elongated, interpretive human torsos, assembled together on a colossal scale, with tree-like stature. Dream Forest celebrates the living presence of the natural forest both in the real world and in our unconscious. By exaggerating that living presence, the Dream Forest serves as a bridge between the invented and the natural world.

LeQuire wrote about a series of dreams he had, and in collaboration with author, Madison Bell, edited them into narrative poetic forms which LeQuire incised in the sculpture, embedding them as part of the final surface texture.

He also created 8-foot tall prints for the walls, woodblock prints on paper embossed with leaves and inked. Those prints caught the eye of Susan Hulme, graphic artist, book artist and owner of BlueMarigold Press. With a print run of just 100, this letterpress-printed book includes a piece of LeQuire's artwork--each cover is cut from a piece of LeQuire's large block prints.

"Every single one is different, they're all unique and they're all beautiful." -Susan Hulme
